Our Chloe

The dog dishes are filled these days, as are our hearts.
Chloe will probably be our last dog, the closing canine chapter in our lives. If she lives the average of 14 years that our dogs usually do, we will be almost 71.
We can feel her unconditional love for us already. There is no stronger case for redemption of dogs.

Love of Dogs

Dogs have served as benchmarks in time for me. Silver was a mutt when I was a toddler. Cuddles, a toy fox terrier, taught me the sting of loss in early adolescence. Dulcey was a beagle who survived my teen years into my early twenties.

When our daughter was three, we purchased Twinkie, a springer spaniel. This dog had a great disposition and taught both my children about what a good dog can be like. After Twinkie died, my broken heart could not be mended until we purchased Chipper, a Dalmatian, who had little desire to please, but she worshipped my husband, and consoled him through a number of surgeries. The heartache of putting her down can still bring tears to my eyes five and one-half months after my son and husband laid her to rest.

Now, the time has come to prepare for a new love in our lives. Chloe, a golden doodle, will be ours in less than a week. Preparations are in order. The new dog bowls are in place. Toys, food, and bedding have all been purchased.

We anxiously await the new benchmark in our lives.
